Yug Yug

Here's one for all you kids of the '80s. During the early part of that decade, movie-theme-disco-maestro Meco was still cranking out albums offering his own dancefloor-friendly interpretations of the biggest box office hits, and let's just say that if disco hadn't died already, this 1983 album surely would have singlehandedly killed it off. Once again he returns to Star Wars territory courtesy of two, err, "vocal" numbers from Return of the Jedi (both completely omitted from George Lucas' dunderheaded "Special Edition" version years later). First up is "Ewok Celebration," a jaw-dropping dance version of the climactic Ewok song complete with, yes, a Star Wars rap. I really couldn't make this up. Then you get a pop version of that Jabba the Hut number, "Lapti Nek." But wait, there's more! Aiming for every demographic possible, the album also includes a cover of Michael Sembello's "Maniac" (from Flashdance), another extended Star Wars suite, and... well... just look at the tracklist for the rest, and prepare to be amazed.

Oh MY Goddddddd!!! This is so way freakin' cool. I'm like totally showing my 80's inner child. Yeah I'm so blushing red right now to admit I love Meco back in the day. I totally jammed to the Star Wars 15+ mins disco song over and over on my ultra big and heavy Sony Walkman cassette player. In fact it wore out the tape many times over. I loved those special effects Meco added and I really really did like the Empire Strikes Back single with the Millennium Falcon flying back and forth over my little hi fi front speakers at home. Oh yeah that was way before "Dolby Digital THX 5.1 Home Theatre". And let's not forget those amazing laser blasts sound efx. Hmmm...maybe Meco should remaster the track in Dolby Digital 7.1 and really get the sound efx whirling around the room now.

Ahhhh...the 80's. Gone are the days of innocence & geekiness. Thanks for sharing. To be honest...I actually don't remember hearing the Return of the Jedi Meco songs. He was so over by the time 1983 came around.

After listing to the Meco songs, I gotta show my manliness and blast loudly Zimmer's The Rock Navy Seals theme so no one will know that I secretly still like Meco. Hahahahahahaha...

i haven't heard it since i wore out my 8track twenty years ago but it had a weird but terrific guitar funk/marching band track called 'robin the boy wonder' that was cooler than you'd think
